Ranked among the top 50 engineering schools worldwide, Waterloo Engineering is committed to leading engineering education and research.

We are the largest engineering school in Canada, with more than 9,500 students enrolled in 2016. In 2016/17, external research funding from Canadian and international partners exceeded $64 million, a strong indication of our extensive industry partnerships and the excellence of our engineering research programs.

    Waterloo Engineering has a key role in a new partnership with leading institutes in China to advance research in the areas of connected and autonomous vehicle technology.

    The partnership between the University of Waterloo and the Qingdao Academy of Intelligent Industries (QAII) and the State Key Laboratory for Management and Control of Complex Systems (SKL-MCCS) was solidified in an agreement recently signed by all parties.

    Farm manure could be a viable source of renewable energy to help reduce greenhouse gas emissions that cause global warming.

    Engineering researchers at the University of Waterloo are developing technology to produce renewable natural gas from manure so it can be added to the existing energy supply system for heating homes and powering industries.

    The next great Canadian innovation could be on display at the annual Waterloo Engineering Capstone Design symposia taking place March 12 to 23 on campus.

    Final year engineering students will be on hand to discuss their projects ranging from a system to help the blind navigate a touch screen using only a smartphone and a wearable device to a sensor that can rapidly detect an individual’s degree of marijuana intoxication.
