Bertha Bridget Kankam recently completed her master’s degree in business, entrepreneurship and technology (MBET) at Waterloo Engineering’s Conrad School of Entrepreneurship and Business.
That is a worthy success in and of itself, but Kankam is not your typical MBET student. Better known to many as Yaa Yaa, she is an award-winning singer-songwriter from Ghana.

Researchers at Waterloo Engineering have developed artificial intelligence (AI) technology to predict if women with breast cancer would benefit from chemotherapy prior to surgery.
The new AI algorithm, part of the open-source Cancer-Net initiative led by Dr. Alexander Wong, could help unsuitable candidates avoid the serious side effects of chemotherapy and pave the way for better surgical outcomes for those who are suitable.

Two Waterloo Engineering research teams have received the first two $5,000 Jain Family Award for Entrepreneurship instalments, a defined term award designated to University of Waterloo students working with Velocity.
The 2022 recipients are Mechano-metamaterial spinal implants for its innovative work to improve the lives of spinal patients and Blackbird for its important advancements in flood risk mapping.
- Feb. 9, 2023In this workshop, members of the worker cooperative game studio SoftChaos will discuss how building structures of care and accessibility into the team's day-to-day working environment can strengthen the creative process of developing games, and will lead participants in interactive exercises to inspire them to bring similar ideas to their own work contexts. The workshop will take place online over two hours.
