Abstract: Larry Smith, a world-renowned economics professor and advocate for entrepreneurship, will deliver a discussion of how the expected rate of economic growth will affect the nature and pace of technological change in Canada and the world.

Bio: In elementary school, Larry Smith

Prof. Larry Smith (BA 1968, MA 1975)
already knew he wanted to teach. By high school, he found himself fascinated with innovation, entrepreneurship and markets and economics seemed to him to be the best choice to combine his interests. Larry earned his BA and MA from the University of Waterloo. Specializing in forecasting and the economics of innovation, he has worked with governments, financial institutions, professional associations and companies developing new markets or new products. An adjunct professor, Larry has taught a remarkable 10 per cent of the University of Waterloo’s alumni.  He is a recipient of the University’s Distinguished Teacher Award, the University’s highest teaching honour.
