Aeryon Labs and a University of Waterloo team led by Waterloo mechanical and mechatronics professor Steve Waslander have won this year’s Ontario Centres of Excellence Mind to Market Award. Aeryon Labs was co-founded by Waterloo Engineering alumni Dave Kroetsch (BASc ’02, Comp, MASc ’07, Mech), Mike Peasgood (BASc ’98, MASc ’02, PhD ’08, SD) and Steffen Lindner (BASc ’92, MASc ’95, SD). The company developed the Aeryon Scout, an innovative, easy-to-use, battery powered, unmanned aerial intelligence gathering system with integrated camera solutions.

Since its inception, Aeryon has partnered with a variety of university researchers and Ontario corporations to advance the commercialization of their technology. One significant collaboration involving Waslander and his team focused on the improvement of vehicle control and performance in a wide range of environments, which has been also been supported through both OCE and federal funding.

The Mind to Market Award honours the best Ontario Centres of Excellence supported research collaboration between the business and research communities resulting in the effective commercialization of leading edge ideas and solutions. [news release] [video]
