Waterloo Engineering professor Sushanta Mitra has been elected as a fellow of the American Physical Society (APS) for his outstanding contributions to physics.
Mitra, a professor of mechanical and mechatronics engineering and the new executive director of the Waterloo Institute for Nanotechnology, was specifically recognized for his work on micro-scale and nano-scale fluid transport, and the development of tools and techniques for energy exploration and water-quality monitoring.
In a congratulatory letter from Laura Greene, the president of the APS, Mitra was also cited for establishing physics exchange programs and ties with many communities in India.
