School teams set to compete at annual robotics event

Wednesday, March 21, 2018

Thirty-two teams of high school students with a passion for designing, building and programming robots will be competing at the annual Ontario District University of Waterloo FIRST Robotics Competition this weekend.

2018 marks the 14th year of FIRST Robotics Competitions at the University of Waterloo, the longest running FRC event in Canada. In this year’s challenge, teams are trapped in the world of 1980’s “retro” video games and must work together to “defeat the boss” by using their robots to collect power cubes, exchange power cubes for power ups, and climb a tower to face the boss and escape at the end of the game.

FRC challenges teams to not only build competitive robots, but also develop transferable skill sets that aid in career development, such as teamwork, project management, strategic thinking and innovative fundraising.
