Undergraduate students win top awards at OEC

Waterloo Engineering undergraduate students captured four top awards at

 the Ontario Engineering Competition held January 27-31 at Carleton University in Ottawa.

The 38th annual competition attracted about 300 competitors from 16 Ontario universities and colleges. The participating students, who advanced from competitions at their own schools, competed in one of seven engineering events. 

Systems design engineering students Graham Bleaney and Ali Vira placed first in competition's debate event.

Second place in the innovative design contest was won by Michael Phillips and Phillip Cooper, both of mechanical and mechatronics engineering.  Kevin Chan, Christopher Gregorian, Avik Hasija and Abhijeet Prasad, all of mechanical and mechatronics engineering, also took second place in the programming competition event.

Jonathan Ranisau of chemical engineering came third in the communications contest.

All first and second place winners advance to the Canadian Engineering Competition to be held at University of Calgary March 2 to 5.
