University of Waterloo is among the best in the world in engineering and computer sciences. That is according to the Academic Ranking of World Universities, which released its 2011 findings on August 15.
The influential ranking placed Waterloo in the top 52 to 75 universities worldwide for engineering and computer sciences, ranked with 24 other well-regarded institutions from the United States, United Kingdom, Australia, Europe, and Asia.
Academic Ranking of World Universities compares 1,200 higher education institutions worldwide. It ranks them according to their overall academic or research performance, as well as by various subject fields. Ranking criteria for the engineering and computer science field includes highly cited researchers, papers indexed in Science Citation Index-Expanded (SCIE) in engineering fields, percentage of papers published in the top 20 per cent of journals of engineering fields to that in all engineering journals, and engineering research expenditure.
Academic Ranking of World Universities was founded by Shanghai Jiaotong University in 2003. It publishes its rankings annually. [complete engineering and computer science ranking details]
