Two researchers at Waterloo Engineering are co-leaders of projects announced by Prime Minister Justin Trudeau this week as the recipients of more than $5.6 million in infrastructure funding from the federal government.

Monica Emelko, a professor of civil and environmental engineering, and Zhongwei Chen, a chemical engineering professor, head up two of 102 research projects nationwide awarded more than $518 million through the Canada Foundation for Innovation (CFI).

Engineering’s Co-op Student of the Year is recognized for her Winter 2020 work term contributions as a junior analyst at a Waterloo-based energy efficiency consulting firm. 

An expert panel that features a Waterloo Engineering professor released its report today on the potential impact and key issues surrounding connected, autonomous, shared and electric (CASE) vehicles.

Convened in the summer of 2019 by the Council of Canadian Academies (CCA), the panel stressed there are pressing decisions required to achieve potential benefits from CASE vehicles including economic growth and cleaner, safer, more accessible transportation.

Two civil and environmental doctoral candidates received outstanding student presentation awards in the hydrology section of the annual American Geophysical Union Fall Meeting.

Danyka Byrnes and Robert Chlumsky spoke about their research at the event held online in December. Considered to be one of the premier international geophysical conferences, it normally draws over 25,000 participants.

A new robot named MyJay that lights up when it scores a basket is just part of Kerstin Dautenhahn’s vision to build robots that give all children the ability to play games regardless of their abilities.

It is with great sadness that I share the news of the passing of Sina Ghanbarzadeh, an ECE doctoral student and co-founder of KA Imaging, on Monday, February 15. Just over a year ago, Sina began his battle with cancer while working towards completing his PhD degree.
