Conduct while at Waterloo

Academic integrity

Along with the information available at Study Abroad Programs, every student at uWaterloo, graduate or undergraduate, domestic or international, are reminded of the need for academic integrity and ethical behaviour.

All students are expected to behave in a professional manner in all their academic interactions.  Note that the person who allows an offense to take place and the actual offender are both accountable.

Typical academic offences include (but are not limited to):

  • Cheating on examinations, assignments and tests
  • Impersonating another student
  • Plagiarism
  • Falsifying or altering academic records

When unsure about whether or not a particular action constitutes an academic offence, it is best to clarify your doubts by asking the course instructor or other academic staff.  You can also consult uWaterloo's Policy 71 for complete details.

Penalties for academic offences range from the assignment of a zero grade, through a reprimand (recorded in the student's file at both institutions) up to expulsion from the university.
