Engineering researchers will benefit from the use of the new, state-of-the-art CANMET Materials Technology Laboratory that is part of the collaborative research agreement the University of Waterloo signed with the federal government October 12 in Engineering 5. In a news release University of Waterloo President Feridun Hamdullahpur said “the collaborative agreement will enhance new materials research for light-weight vehicles and will make CANMET’s facilities more accessible to Waterloo’s researchers and graduate students in engineering and science.” One example Hamdullahpur gave is a project that involves the Waterloo Institute for Nanotechnology. The project will help strengthen CANMET’s work in thermoelectric materials, which directly convert waste heat to electricity.
