A second-year student at the School of Architecture is one of three $5,000 scholarship winners in an essay contest sponsored by the Royal Architectural Institute of Canada (RAIC).

Osman Bari will receive his award at a gala in Toronto next month after his illustrated 1,000-word essay was selected from 180 entries from students at Canada’s 11 accredited architecture schools and other institutions.

Students were asked to write about the circumstances of their decision to become an architect, or when they realized their decision was the right one.

Bari’s essay featured the cricket pavilion at his high school and how it evoked both the team’s continuing history and its ever-changing membership, as well as a shared courtyard at his childhood school for students of different classes and abilities.
