Sparkdrive is the winner of Waterloo Engineering’s inaugural 90sC student video competition, topping off an exciting 2014 season of Capstone Design.
A fun, inspirational video that could easily become a marketing tool for future commercialization of their product, effectively demonstrating the relevance of innovation in engineering design for a general audience.
Inspired by the 3MT, the 90sC video competition challenged this year’s Capstone Design teams to create 90 second videos showing how their projects would impact society.
The videos were judged for:
- Comprehension (enhancing the understanding of the design project for a general audience)
- Engagement (capturing audience attention)
- Communication (the presentation of a well-paced video with language and visuals appropriate for a general audience)
Second prize was awarded to MAJik Systems, also the recipients of a 2014 Esch Award. MAJik, created by fourth year Management Engineering students, is a software system that connects directly to CNC-controlled machines to automate the collection of operational data and analyze machine downtime in factories.
You can find Sparkdrive, MAJik Systems and all the 90sC video entries on the Waterloo Engineering YouTube channel. For information on how to enter the 90sC video competition, visit 90sC on the Waterloo Engineering website. Stay tuned for news on next year’s 90sC!
