Dilaver Singh, a mechanical and mechatronics graduate student, received first place in the master’s category for his presentation at the World Congress of Biomechanics held in Boston July 6-11. 

The title of his presentation was Head FE models to evaluate primary response to blast loading and protection. Singh's graduate supervisor is Duane Cronin, a mechanical and mechatronics engineering professor.

Engineering better bridges

It’s not often that you’ll see an indoor pedestrian bridge – especially one that’s 70 feet long and made from aluminum.

Silvia Vlad, a civil and environmental engineering master's student, was honoured with the Michael R. Provart Environmental Award at the Ontario Water Works Association/Ontario Municipal Water Association Joint Annual Conference held in London, Silvia VladON.
A Waterloo software engineering student and grad were part of the team that repaired HealthCare.gov, the web site used for uninsured Americans to sign up for what's known as Obamacare.  
David Hu took part in the project during his final software engineering term. Pictured right, Hu graduated from Waterloo Engineering this month.

Professor Roydon FraserRoydon Fraser, a mechanical and mechatronics professor, received the National Science Foundation (NSF) Outstanding Long Term Faculty Advisor Award presented to him at the EcoCAR2 competition finals held in Washington June 13. Fraser, whose research expertise includes fuel cells and stability control, is a long-term supervisor of the University of Waterloo's Alternative Fuels Team.

Andrew Kennings of electrical and computer engineering was a member of the team that placed first in the ISPD 2014 Detailed Routing-Driven Placement Contest held as part of the International Symposium of Physical Design.  
The symposium held this year in California provides a forum to exchange ideas and promote research on critical areas related to the physical design of VLSI systems.The contest was sponsored by Mentor Graphics Corporation.
Waterloo Engineers received undergraduate and graduate degrees in two ceremonies on June 14. 
During the morning ceremony, 811 students were on hand to receive degrees in architecture, chemical engineering, civil engineering, environmental engineering, geological engineering, management engineering, management sciences, mechanical engineering, and mechatronics engineering.

Professor Bruce Rittmann was presented with an honorary Doctor of Engineering.
