As part of our FYDP/Capstone 2022 spotlights, we’re excited to introduce the Creative Creek Engineers team from Environmental Engineering: Ruchi Hamal, Mara Peever, Thea Taylor, and Sukhpreet Saini and their project “The Rehabilitation of Schneider Creek”!
Can you explain your project in one sentence?
Our project aims to demonstrate our technical abilities and dedication to social equity and sustainability through the redesigning of an urbanized, concrete stream into a naturalized one.
What has been the best part of your project so far?
The best part of our Capstone is being able to work with friends who have similar interests and goals, and just being able to witness how much we've all grown since first year! We prioritize our team's well-being and connection with each other by planning team camping trips, group yoga, zumba, and craft nights! Another highlight has been being able to perform site visits and collecting water quality samples of the Creek.
What is the biggest challenge you've faced during your project?
Having to work online, and work around the pandemic has been difficult, but being in a team of people who are understanding, patient, and all want the best for each other has been what’s getting us through it!
What's next for your team members once you're finished?
I think we’re all at a point where we are in need of a nice long rest after graduating, but we’re all excited to keep moving forward!
