Meet Delainey Lindstorm-Humphries!⁣⁣

Hi folks! My name is Delainey Lindstrom-Humphries and I just finished my third year of Mechanical Engineering. I’m a pretty active member of our engineering community and have focused a lot of my energy on supporting our Engineering Society. I am also actively involved with Engineering Orientation and Engineering Ambassadors. Outside of school, I really enjoy spending my time skiing, rock climbing, and listening to audiobooks. ⁣

Why get involved with EngSoc?⁣

EngSoc works to create multiple different opportunities for students to get involved and connect with our engineering community. Many students see our events and services as the most front-facing portion of the Society but behind the scene is where a lot of the Societies work takes place. The Executive represents students on a variety of committees across campus (and even across the country!) to share student opinions and collaborate with other groups to make improvements and address concerns. This shapes both your academic and co-op experience, for example, having three no-rank options on WaterlooWorks was a major advocacy outcome. If you want to help make your and your classmates’ University experience better I’d definitely recommend getting involved! You will also meet and begin to really get to know a variety of other students from across multiple different years and programs which I know has made my experience really fun in addition to being super rewarding.⁣

Favourite Waterloo tradition or memory that you would like to share.⁣

One of my favourite traditions is the annual charity bus push where we pull a bus all the way from the DWE culdesac to Kitchener. There’s nothing like a bunch of engineering students wearing hard hats and singing while pulling a bus through the middle of the street for a good cause.⁣

Advice for incoming students? What should incoming students look forward to at Waterloo?⁣

Spend time on the things you are passionate about! There is no checklist for what a perfect engineering student should do (trust me, I’ve looked) so spend your time and energy on the things you enjoy and pave your own path. ⁣
