EMBODY Consulting

Group members of embody consulting and the uwp low rise residence building

March 14, 2022

As part of our FYDP/Capstone 2022 spotlights, we’re excited to introduce team EMBODY Consulting from Civil Engineering: Michael Terpstra, Alexis Minniti, Charlotte Bartos, and Julia Leinenweber and their project “Deep Energy Retrofit of University of Waterloo COURTS Residence Buildings”!

Can you explain your project in one sentence?

EMBODY Consulting is performing a deep energy retrofit of the building envelope of the University of Waterloo’s Court low-rise residence buildings.

What has been the best part of your project so far?

We’ve really enjoyed getting to do meaningful work for our project which aims to make the existing building more energy efficient while increasing comfort and resiliency against future climate conditions through passive measures. We have been working with the University of Waterloo facility managers and will be providing them with our work when we’re finished. Our final design will help the university reach its energy performance goals and create a more comfortable environment for students.

What is the biggest challenge you've faced during your project?

A challenge we’ve faced was having to teach ourselves various new modeling and CAD programs in a short period of time.

What's next for your team members once you're finished?

Our team members will be looking for full time jobs after graduating. Specifically, we’ll be going into building science, architecture, urban sustainability, and structural engineering.
