Waterloo Engineering alum Rachel Bartholomew (MBET ’14) is the founder and CEO of Hyivy, a femtech startup revolutionizing women's health care through therapeutic and remote monitoring devices for gynecological conditions. She is also the founder and lead advisor of Femtech Canada, an organization advocating for women innovators.
Bartholomew, a Waterloo alum from the Conrad School of Entrepreneurship and Business, reflects on her entrepreneurial journey and the experiences that shaped her company.
Hyivy was born from Bartholomew's own experience with cervical cancer at age 28. The standard care for gynecological cancers is about 84 years old, so she felt it was time for innovation.
Not interested in a traditional MB, Bartholomew chose Waterloo's master's degree in Business, Entrepreneurship and Technology — which at the time was one of the only entrepreneurship programs in this space. Her first company helped her learn the ropes of incubators, startups and innovation — which eventually led her to start Hyivy.
