Engineering alumni named to Forbes 30 under 30 list

Electrical engineering alumni ​Dhananja (DJ) Jayalath and Christopher Wiebe, co-founders of the California-based wearable tech company Athos, have been named to this year's Forbes 30 Under 30 list.
Athos produces fitness apparel that measures key performance indicators such as muscle activity, heart rate, and breathing. Jayalath and Wiebe met in

second year of Waterloo's electrical engineering program  and began developing the technology as their Capstone Design projectwinning two awards at the Ontario Engineering Competition.
After they graduated in 2012, fellow Waterloo alumnus and venture capitalist Chamath Palihapitiya stepped in, backing Athos with $3.5 million in seed funding. Palihapitiya, who also graduated from the electrical engineering program, heads up Social + Capital Partnership and is a part-owner of the NBA’s Golden State Warriors.
