The hard work, perseverance and accomplishments of Waterloo Engineering's 2021 graduates will be honoured in two convocation events on June 19.
An online reception will begin at 5 p.m. to recognize the Faculty's newest alumni. It will include a slide show of photos submitted by students highlighting nostalgic moments throughout their various programs, a group opening of a special gift sent to all graduates and fun games with “awesome prizes.”
Beginning at 7 p.m., engineering’s remote convocation ceremony will award degrees to 1,283 undergraduate students, 478 master’s students and 81 doctoral students.
Highlights of the ceremony will include:
- Valedictorian Jonathan Miguel Logarta-Chin addressing convocation.
- Yuanyang Qi receiving the University of Waterloo Alumni Gold Medal.
- Natalie Angela Pundsack receiving the Governor General's Academic Silver Medal and

Earlier this week, Chuck Magro (BASc ’93, chemical engineering) was awarded an honorary Doctorate of Engineering degree in a special ceremony.
Mary Wells, dean of Waterloo Engineering, reflects on the strengths and accomplishments of the new graduates.
"In earning this degree, you have grown as individuals, gained new experience and have acquired the strong engineering and architecture foundations and problem-solving competencies that will serve you well in the future," says Wells. "You are well prepared to create innovations; to collaborate across fields and tackle some of the world's most pressing challenges."
