Friday, February 16, 2024

Seun Adetunji, a Master of Business, Entrepreneurship, and Technology (MBET) student at the University of Waterloo’s Conrad School of Entrepreneurship and Business, is revolutionizing healthcare communication with her innovative solution, MedInclude

Adetunji is addressing the prevalent issue of patients with medical jargon. According to some studies, around 51% of patients don’t understand medical language provided by their doctor.

Drawing on personal and professional experiences in the health care sector and expertise in communications and equity, diversity, and inclusion, Failing to find suitable solutions, she created MedInclude—an AI-based platform that transcribes patient notes into layman's terms in real time, also offering text-to-audio and language translation for accessibility.

The platform aids clinicians by transforming complex medical language into easily understandable terms, aiming for a grade five reading level. MedInclude's pilot program with KidsAbility in 2023 demonstrated its effectiveness in translating information to patients in their preferred language, enhancing health information literacy.

Feedback from this pilot has guided the ongoing development of MedInclude, with an anticipated next iteration set to launch in the first quarter of 2024. Adetunji's vision revolves around leveraging AI technology to make medical information more accessible, empowering patients and caregivers to actively participate in their healthcare decisions. As MedInclude evolves, it promises cleaner and more seamless experiences for both clinicians and patients, exemplifying Adetunji's commitment to revolutionizing patient-centric communication in the healthcare landscape.
