A message of condolence from Dean Mary Wells

Monday, January 4, 2021

It is with deep sadness that I share information about the death of one of our students - Mihir Rodrigues, a second-year Chemical Engineering student.

Mihir passed away while at home in India from a heart-related issue on December 29th, 2020. The University’s thoughts are with Mihir’s family and we are supporting them at this difficult time. Mr. and Mrs. Rodrigues shared that Mihir loved his time at Waterloo and said they are very grateful that he had the experience of studying at Waterloo Engineering. Mihir’s life was celebrated in a family service on December 31. We can take comfort in knowing that Mihir was home with his family, rather than far away in Canada. Chemical Engineering is planning a memorial event this Friday to celebrate Mihir’s life and more details will be provided later.

Mihir’s father, Mr. Rodrigues, shared his email address mj_rodrigues@hotmail.com and welcomes shared comments about Mihir noting the family would be appreciative of any condolence messages.

I know this is difficult news to hear on our first day back from the holiday break and into our new year. Please know that if you are grieving and need any support, people are there for you:
