Mikaela Lewis
Mikaela Lewis, a mechanical and mechatronics engineering doctoral candidate, is among four recipients across campus honoured with the Amit & Meena Chakma Awards for Exceptional Teaching by a Student.

A teaching assistant for a third-year fluid mechanics course, Lewis is described as passionate and adaptable, ensuring her students can best understand the material she’s teaching. Her office hours are so popular that she hosts additional ones to meet her students’ needs.

Mikaela Lewis, a mechanical and mechatronics PhD student, is one of four recipients of the 2023 Amit & Meena Chakma Award for Exceptional Teaching by a Student.

“Mikaela makes an effort to come to our lectures so she can stay up to date and use the same verbiage we’re learning for clarity in her course,” said one of Lewis’ undergraduate students.

The Amit & Meena Chakma Awards for Exceptional Teaching by a Student were established through a donation by Amit Chakma, the University of Waterloo's vice president academic and provost from 2001 to 2009, and his wife, Menna, to recognize and promote teaching excellence by graduate students at Waterloo.

See the Centre of Teaching Excellence site for more information on Mikaela Lewis's exceptional teaching award.
