Dr. Eman Rezk, an NSERC Postdoctoral Scholar in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, has been named a 2024 recipient of the Royal Society of Canada (RSC) Alice Wilson Award. This award is presented annually to three women of outstanding academic qualifications in the fields of Arts and Humanities, Social Sciences, or Science, recognizing excellence at the postdoctoral level.

Rezk’s research, situated at the intersection of artificial intelligence and healthcare, is creating new approaches for equitable skin cancer diagnosis. Her work addresses a critical gap in the racial diversity of healthcare data, employing AI to improve diagnosis for underrepresented populations.

The Alice Wilson Award was established by the RSC in 1991 to commemorate Dr. Alice Evelyn Wilson, the first woman elected to the Royal Society of Canada and a trailblazer in Canadian geology. The award recognizes emerging female researchers who have demonstrated scholarly excellence while embarking on their careers.

Rezk’s recognition with this award is a testament to her research excellence and dedication to advancing healthcare through technology. The Faculty of Engineering is proud to celebrate Rezk’s accomplishments and looks forward to the impact she will continue to make in her field.
