Waterloo Engineering alumni returned to campus for reunion and enjoyed multiple events hosted by the Faculty of Engineering and the University's Alumni Relations.
The engineering Classes of 1963, 1968, 1973, 1978, 1983, 1988, 1993, 1998, 2003, 2008, 2013 and 2018 were invited to campus to reconnect with classmates and faculty members, attend lectures, explore new facilities and celebrate this milestone together.
The events kicked off on Friday, June 2 with a special screening of the documentary Rock This Town. The film follows the rich and surprising history of live music in the Waterloo Region, largely initiated by Joe Recchia (BASc ’68, chemical engineering and MASc ’71, management sciences and systems engineering).
Other weekend events included the reunion lecture with Dr. Mary Wells, dean of Waterloo Engineering, who delivered a visionary lecture about the future of engineering at the University of Waterloo as well as the Engineering Back-to-the Classroom Lecture with Dr. Larry Smith, professor of economics at Waterloo, who talked about uncertainty with a focus on the future of the economy, immigration and the planetary population.
Alumni were also treated to student-guided tours through the halls of Engineering to see their old stomping grounds and new state-of-the art labs and hear about the transformational research taking place within the Faculty of Engineering.
