Your academic record is recorded by various terms. You may think of terms as Fall, Winter, or Spring. In the UWaterloo model, terms are often designated by a 4-digit term code "ayym" where "a" is either 0 (for years before 2000) or a 1 (for years 2000 and later) "yy" is the least significant, two digits of the year and "m" is the month that the term starts. As a result 1199 starts in the ninth month of 2019 (September or Fall); another example, 1201 starts in the first month of 2020 (January or Winter).

- DRNA, Degree required, not included in average, in failure count
- DRNC, Degree required, not included in average, and not in failure count

- GPA, Grade point average

an
academic
term,
your
term
average
is
calculated
and
a
progression
decision
is
made
based
on
the
published
Engineering
examinations
and
promotions
rules
for
your
cohort.
The
following
information
refers
to
academic
terms
only.
- Most of the courses taken in an academic term are used in the term average. Courses that have been enrolled as DRNA, DRNC and NRNA are not part of the term average. Courses with no designation (blank courses) or courses with TRIA designation are included in the term average. Some courses such as WKRPT courses are always designated as DRNA or DRNC. These designations are only available for very specific reasons that you can discuss with your academic advisor.
- At the end of each academic term, your term average is calculated using the course weight and the course grade for all courses that are to be included in the term average. The term average (for the courses to be included) is calculated as Term GPA = ∑ (grade * weight) / ∑ weight.

- Normally there is no progression decision associated with non-degree terms and work terms and "Decision not Applicable" will appear in your academic record for these terms.
Bachelor of Architectural Studies (BAS) term information
Terms are normally described as an academic term, a work term or a non-degree term. At the end of an academic term, the term average is calculated and a progression decision is made based on the published promotion rules for your cohort. At the end of a work term the normal decision is shown as "Decision not Applicable". At the end of non-degree terms the decision is shown as "Decision not Applicable". Normally there is no progression decision associated with non-degree terms and work terms. The following information refers to academic terms only.
- At the end of each academic term, your term average is calculated using the course weight and course grade for all courses that are to be included in the term average. The term average (for the courses to be included) is calculated as Cumulative GPA = ∑ (grade * weight) / ∑ weight (over all of your courses in the BAS program to date).
- All of the courses taken in an academic term are used in the term average.
