Waterloo Engineering students and alumni are invited to participate in an exclusive virtual Office Hour with Waterloo Engineering alumnus Alfred Lam (BASc '03, Chemical Engineering), Partner at Chrysalix Venture Capital.
During this Office Hour, Alfred Lam will talk about his insights and learnings about what investors look for when they consider investing in a start-up. Alfred has been evaluating start-up for venture capital investments at Chrysalix since 2012 and is actively involved with several investments for Chrysalix. Alfred’s knowledge and experience is based on his passion for investment theses, deal sourcing, due diligence, portfolio and fund management, as well as his personal experience with co-founding a start-up and more than 10 years of R&D experience.

Biography
Alfred Lam is an innovator, company builder and investor. He has more than 10 years R&D experience; co-founded and incubated Mangrove Lithium, a spin-off from the University of British Columbia; and has been with Chrysalix since 2012.
Alfred is instrumental in the development of investment theses, deal sourcing, due diligence, portfolio and fund management. He is currently focused on investments that enable the circularity, electrification and decarbonization of large industrial sectors.
Alfred holds a number of Board positions and is actively involved with Chrysalix investments in Feasible, Sortera Alloys, Applied Impact Robotics, Axine Water Technologies and General Fusion.
He has a PhD in Chemical & Biological Engineering from the University of British Columbia and a BASc in Chemical Engineering from the University of Waterloo.
