One of the primary ways our students earn money is through our co-operative education program, the largest post-secondary co-op program of its kind in the world. The co-op experience allows students to try out different careers to see what they like, while earning money to help pay for their education. As a bonus, you'll be building a résumé with up to 2 years of meaningful, relevant work experience and creating connections through employers and coworkers, which adds up to a real-world advantage after university.
With employers in over 60 countries, Waterloo co-op students travel far and wide in search of experiences that will broaden their horizons and further their careers. Many engineering and architecture co-op jobs are available internationally. With opportunities in Canada, the United States, and beyond. Since Fall 2017 alone, there have been over 2,700 engineering co-op placements in the US.
Can 529 Plans Be Used By Students?
The University of Waterloo is a FAFSA eligible school. However, some restrictions apply to the use of U.S. federal student aid. Students may use 529 plans to pay tuition and other eligible expenses incurred at the University of Waterloo. For those with 529 plans, our OPE ID is 00852600.
Micro scholarships
As an American student, you can begin applying for micro-scholarships as early as grade 9, giving you four whole years to earn scholarships. You’ll already be setting yourself up for post-secondary success throughout high school — you might as well be rewarded for it. You can sign up with RaiseMe to see how many micro-scholarships you are eligible for within the University of Waterloo’s Faculty of Engineering. It’s simple — all you have to do is add your high school achievements. Your achievements can be anything from grades to clubs sports and volunteer activities. RaiseMe will automatically begin matching you to scholarships based on your achievements. You could get a scholarship for taking a challenging course or even having a leadership role in an extracurricular activity.
University of Waterloo Scholarships
Entrance scholarships are available to all undergraduate students and are sponsored by alumni, private donors, and corporations. They are merit-based awards and range from $1,000 CAD to $5,000 CAD. Several International Student Entrance Scholarships of $10,000 CAD are also awarded based on academic performance, extra-curricular activities listed on your Admission Information Form, and your online interview. Additionally, all first-year students with an admission average of 85% or greater, receive an entrance scholarship. A $2000 CAD President’s Scholarship is awarded to students with averages of 90% or greater. Students with averages in excess of 95% receive additional financial awards.
