William Tatham and Réal (Ray) Tanguay, both strong supporters of engineering education at the University of Waterloo, will receive honorary doctorates during the university's spring convocation ceremonies on June 16.
On Tuesday, April 17th, 2012, Professor Mark W. Matsen from UK's University of Reading, will deliver a lecture titled "Ultra-low friction between surfaces coated with polyelectrolyte brushes". This lecture is free and open to the public!
On Tuesday, April 3, the University of Waterloo's Baja SAE design team unveiled their 2012 all-terrain vehicle in Engineering's Student Design Centre. Designed over the Spring and Fall 2011 school terms and constructed between January and March, the car will take part in a competition in Portland, Oregon, from May 2-5, 2012.
On Thursday, April 12th, 2012, Professor Vaidhyanathan Ramamurthy from the University of Miami, will deliver a lecture titled "Chemistry in a Nanocapsule: Controlling excited state processes through confinement and weak interactions". This lecture is free and open to the public!
On Saturday March 31st, the very last day of National Engineering Month, University of Waterloo Engineering was taken over by 112 Girl Guides and their leaders! The girls came from Kitchener-Waterloo, Cambridge, New Dundee, Ayr, Baden and Stratford to participate in our Engineering Badge Day for Girl Guides.

The visiting professorship was founded in 1992 by the late Walter Bean, who was president of Waterloo Trust until its merger with Canada Trust in 1968. The professorship seeks to promote a legacy of community involvement and commitment to youth, education and community, and involves uWaterloo's faculties of Engineering, Environment and Science.
This year’s Waterloo Region Record “Forty Under 40” honours included six with direct links to Waterloo Engineering -- four alumni, a professor and a staff member. On the list were engineering graduates David Kroetsch, president of spinoff company Aeryon Labs; Michael Peasgood, vice-president for engineering at Aeryon; Craig Haney, director of marketing for Emergent and a community volunteer; and Andrea Clegg, an engineer at McCormick Rankin Corp.
