Join fellow math and engineering alumni, and Stephen M. Watt, Dean of the Faculty of Mathematics, in Montreal for an inspiring alumni event. Celebrating the Female Tech Trailblazer will feature short, ted-style talks highlighting speakers’ incredible contributions to technology and the work being done to remove the barriers for young women considering a career in tech.

Enjoy networking, hors d’oeuvres and refreshments before and after the formal program. Program begins promptly at 5:30 pm.

Co-founder and CTO of Iversoft, a trusted technology partner specializing in digital experiences. As the brains behind the technical development, Vicki has led the team to design and develop 150+ apps and games for clients worldwide. Since the company’s inception in 2009, Vicki has helped build a strong, collaborative team and a growing, profitable business. Vicki is a mentor and strong advocate for women in technology and actively encourages youth to pursue STEM careers. In recognition of her work, Vicki has received the Ottawa Chamber of Commerce 2016 Forty Under 40 award, the 2017 Women in Communications and Technology Entrepreneur of the Year, and the J.W. Graham Medal in Computing and Innovation from the University of Waterloo. Vicki has a mathematics degree in computer science from the University of Waterloo and a master of science in artificial intelligence from the University of Toronto. 

Kate Larson (BSc '97, MSc '99, PhD '04)kate

Dr. Kate Larson is a Professor in the David R. Cheriton School of Computer Science at the University of Waterloo, where she is also Associate Director of Undergraduate Studies. She holds a PhD from Carnegie Mellon University and a B.Sc from Memorial University of Newfoundland. Her research interests include artificial intelligence, with a particular focus on preference modelling and incentive issues in multiagent systems.

She served as General Co-Chair for the Sixteenth International Conference on Autonomous Agents and Multiagent Systems (AAMAS 2017), served on the board of directors of the International Foundation for Autonomous Agents and Multiagent Systems (2010-2016), including serving as President (2014-2016), was a councillor for the Association for the Advancement of Artificial Intelligence (AAAI), and is an associate editor for the journals Artificial Intelligence, Journal of Artificial Intelligence Research (JAIR) and Journal of Autonomous Agents and Multiagent Systems.

Dr. Joanne Atlee (P.Eng) is a Professor in the David R. Cheriton School of Computer Science at the University of Waterloo, where she is the Director of Women in Computer Science and the founding Director for the Software Engineering program.  Her research interests include software requirements, software modelling, automated analysis of software models, modular software development, and the detection and resolution of feature interactions — applied to telephony and automotive software. She will be the General Chair for the 41st International Conference on Software Engineering (ICSE’19) and served as Program Co-Chair for the 31st International Conference on Software Engineering (ICSE’09) and Program Chair for the 13th IEEE Requirements Engineering Conference (RE'05). She served on the ACM SIGSOFT Executive Committee as an at-large member and is a member of the International Federation for Information Processing (IFIP) Working Group 2.9 on Software Requirements Engineering. She serves on the editorial boards of IEEE Transactions on Software Engineering, Software and Systems Modelling, and Requirements Engineering Journal. She is a co-author with Shari Lawrence Pfleeger on their textbook “Software Engineering: Theory and Practice”.  She is an ACM Distinguished Scientist.
