The Department of Mechanical and Mechatronics Engineering in the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Waterloo invites applications for exceptional scholars and researchers for one tenure track position at the rank of Assistant Professor in Thermal Engineering in the area of Energy and Sustainability with an anticipated start date in February 2025. In the case of an exceptional candidate, an appointment at the rank of Associate Professor or Full Professor will be considered.
The successful candidate must have a PhD in Mechanical Engineering or an equivalent discipline. The successful candidate will be joining a dynamic Thermal Engineering group with access to a wealth of state-of-the-art research facilities. Applicants with theoretical and experimental expertise that complement or fit with the Thermal Engineering group and can leverage existing infrastructure will be prioritized. Current research areas include energy and alternative energy systems, combustion and propulsion, and fundamental heat transfer studies.
Duties also include the teaching of undergraduate and graduate courses in the area of thermodynamics and heat transfer, supervising graduate and undergraduate students, and undertaking an active research program.
The salary range for this position is $120,000 to $160,000 CAD. The closing date for applications is February 16, 2024. The successful applicant is required to have an engineering license for practice (full) or teaching (limited) in Canada, or to apply for a Canadian engineering license within the first year of joining the University. Due to program accreditation requirements, all new faculty members are required to obtain the license within five years of initial appointment at the University of Waterloo, and maintain it during their employment at the University.
