Waterloo-based e-commerce startup Perpetua is utilizing the power of co-op students to drive its global growth.
Perpetua was co-founded by Waterloo Engineering alumnus Rosco Hill (BASc '03, electrical and computer engineering) and fellow University alumnus Joe Rideout (BMath '03). Since opening its doors in 2016, the company has grown from 40 employees to more than 200.
The e-commerce advertising software company builds tools to support giants like Amazon, Walmart, Instacart and Target. In just four years, it has expanded from Canada to Asia, Europe and South America. The company cites co-op students as crucial to this growth.
"Students offer fresh perspectives from their work experience as well as different ideas they have learned through co-op," said Jennie Darnley, the company's talent acquisition co-ordinator.
"Our co-op program at Perpetua allows us to test talent that we can transition into full-time. They get a glance of what it’s like to work with us and, near the end of their time with us, we often offer them to come back following graduation."
