Three Waterloo Engineering alumni are infusing Ontario’s summer scene with handcrafted ice cream, Egyptian street food and craft beer.

Ajoa Mintah (BASc ’01, chemical engineering), Amr Elmazariky (MASc ’11, electrical and computer engineering) and Jim Murphy (BASc ’95, chemical engineering) all worked as engineers before becoming successful entrepreneurs in the food and beverage sector.

Four All Ice Cream, founded by Ajoa Mintah.

Mintah launched her ice cream parlour during a heatwave in 2003 and now operates two scoop shops in Kitchener-Waterloo. Four All partners with regional producers and is known for its natural ingredients and delicious flavours. In 2022, the company earned the Small Business of the Year award from the Greater Kitchener Waterloo Chamber of Commerce.

Tut’s Egyptian Street Food, founded by Amr Elmazariky.

Elmazariky launched Tut’s in downtown Toronto in 2020. Despite starting the business during the pandemic, Tut’s grew to seven Ontario locations, including one in Waterloo. Local foodies can now enjoy traditional Egyptian street food on their doorstep.

Elora Brewing Company (EBC), co-founded by Jim Murphy.

Murphy and his co-founders, including Waterloo Arts alum Jonathan Laurencic (BA ’10), launched EBC in 2015. The brewery released a special-edition Ring Road Lager to commemorate 100 years of the iron ring in 2025, with proceeds supporting the 100 Years of Canadian Engineering Fund.
