Wednesday, May 6, 2015

As Waterloo Engineering launches into a $70 million fundraising campaign, Dean Pearl Sullivan shares the vision for this campaign and why this is a critical initiative as we work to ensure we continue to transform our education model.

“Waterloo Engineering lives and breathes a culture of excellence. This campaign will help to solidify our reputation for academic leadership and uniquely preparing students for the future. We are raising the bar again – by providing even earlier opportunities to experience what it is to be an engineer, while more fully nurturing those with entrepreneurial aspirations and supporting research at the highest levels,” says Pearl Sullivan,  Dean of the Faculty of Engineering.

Sullivan further outlines the urgent need and vision of the newly launched campaign:

  • Since 2005, [the Faculty have seen a] 40 per cent increase in engineering undergraduate enrolment and a 58 per cent increase in our graduate numbers.
  • By 2020, Waterloo Engineering will add another 1,300 students to our current student body of over 9,000.
  • Waterloo alumni, students and faculty have started 500+ new ventures that are employing thousands, and our 39,493 alumni have contributed to nation building.

“As Canada’s largest engineering school, we have the responsibility to help advance engineering education for the 21st century,” says Sullivan.
