"Waterloo Engineering continues to attract the best scholars and the brightest students from across Canada and around the world," said Rick Culham, the interim dean. "The latest QS rankings provide further validation that our investments in talent and infrastructure improvements are paying dividends as we strive to be one of the world’s pre-eminent centres of engineering education and research."

Waterloo ranked 41st in the world in the engineering and technology category, one of five broad subject areas evaluated by QS. That is up from 46th in 2019 and 70th in 2018

In individual subject rankings, chemical engineering, civil engineering, electrical engineering and mechanical engineering all landed spots between 51 and 100. Architecture made the top 150.

Other engineering disciplines at Waterloo weren’t among the 48 subjects ranked by the United Kingdom company based on academic reputation, employer reputation, and research citations and impact.

In all five engineering subjects covered by the rankings, Waterloo placed in the top four in Canada.
