Waterloo Engineering students achieved impressive results at Canada’s most prestigious engineering student competition last month.

The 2025 Canadian Engineering Competition (CEC), hosted at Dalhousie University, provided a platform for students to demonstrate their innovative thinking and technical expertise across several categories. Every Waterloo competitor secured a top-three finish in their respective category.

Among the highlights was a first-place finish in the Consulting category, earned by Priyanka Chakravarti and Jenny Hui (software engineering).

In the Innovative Design category, Olivia Graham, Josh Bell, Belle Shin, and Sally Yang (nanotechnology engineering) claimed second place, while Melda Kiziltan, Ethan Kim, Ridham Goyal, and Shaheer Rana (mechatronics engineering) finished third.

In the Senior Design category, Daniel Ye, Sahil Kale, Aaron Spoelstra (mechatronics engineering), and Daniel Puratich (electrical and computer engineering) secured second place. Meanwhile, in the Junior Design category, a team of mechatronics engineering students — Michael Zeliznak, Emily Di Lauro, Greg Schneider, and Beaumont Qu — earned third place.
