Zhongchao Tan has been selected as a 2022 fellow of the Canadian Society of Mechanical Engineering (CSME) for his “significant contributions” to the field of mechanical engineering.

The Waterloo mechanical engineering professor, whose teaching and research focus on filtration and separation technologies for green energy and a clean environment, is the director of the University’s Green Energy and Pollution Control Research Lab.

Tan’s CSME citation notes his contribution to scholarship has been recognized by international peers.

"For example, his single-authored book, Air Pollution and Greenhouse Gases, reached 1.7+ million downloads globally," his citation reads.

"His impact on his peer groups and the wider society is also evidenced by numerous domestic and international awards, including PhD Thesis Award, Early Research Excellence Award, Outstanding Performance Award, Highly Cited Researcher (top 1%) from Clarivate Analytics, and Distinguished
