Nicholas Levinski, a graduate student in the Department of Mechanical and Mechatronics Engineering, has been awarded a Women’s Health Scholar Award by The Council of Ontario Universities (COU).
These yearly awards recognize individuals conducting groundbreaking research in Women’s Health. Recipients are awarded up to $50,000 to further research with a focus on enhancing the health and well-being of women across the province and beyond.
The COU provides a forum for Ontario’s universities to collaborate and advocate in support of their shared mission to the benefit and prosperity of students, communities and the province of Ontario. Funded by the Ontario Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care, the Ontario Women’s Health Scholar Awards ensure that Ontario continues to promote leading-edge scholarship into women’s health that will drive improvement in the health and well-being of women across Ontario and beyond.
Levinski’s work focuses on enhancing the quality of life for lymphedema patients. He is developing technology to provide accurate and accessible limb volume measurements, crucial for effective management of this chronic condition. By employing wearable textile sensors capable of real-time monitoring Levinski is able to provide patients with continuous, at-home monitoring capabilities enabling remote and accessible interventions, along with personalizing treatment plans and improved overall efficacy.
Levinski is working towards creating cost-effective, discreet devices that patients can seamlessly and easily use in their daily lives. This approach not only enhances physical health outcomes but also supports patients’ mental well-being by addressing limitations when using existing medical equipment.
