Year one of the EcoCAR 3 competition is wrapping up and the University of Waterloo Alternative Fuels team (UWAFT) has been awarded third place overall and more than $10,000 USD cash.
Last week in Seattle, Washington, student teams from 16 competing universities presented their work to a room full of judges covering key themes in the EcoCAR eight track program, including: mechanical, electrical, controls, systems modeling & simulation, innovation, project initialization approval, project management, and communications.
Only two of the competing teams are from Canadian universities, and with two more years of the process ahead, UWAFT is well positioned to take the lead. The team's third place overall standing resulted from success in the following areas and presentations:
- 1st Winter workshop stakeholder presentation
- 1st Winter workshop system Modeling and simulation
- Best Project management plan award
- 3rd in Project Management
- 2nd in Trade Show Presentation
- 3rd in Project Initializations Presentation
- 2nd in System Modeling, Simulation and Demonstration
EcoCAR 3 is the latest U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Advanced Vehicle Technology Competition (AVTC) series. As North America’s premier collegiate automotive engineering competition, EcoCAR 3 is challenging 16 North American university teams to redesign a Chevrolet Camaro to reduce its environmental impact, while maintaining the muscle and performance expected from this iconic American car.
Sponsored by DOE and General Motors and managed by Argonne National Laboratory, EcoCAR is the heart of American automotive ingenuity and innovation and is the ultimate training ground for minting future automotive leaders.
