features
a
video
platform
company
that
started
as
a
systems
design
engineering
Capstone
Design project
and
Pearl
Sullivan,
dean
of
Waterloo
Engineering.
Alexis
Ohanian,
co-founder
of
reddit
and
a
partner
with
Y
Combinator, travelled
to
Waterloo
a
couple
of
weeks
ago
to
interview
Waterloo
Engineering
alumni
Michael
Litt, Devon
Galloway
and
Tyler
Campaigne
of Waterloo
region-based Vidyard
and
Sullivan.
Calling
Waterloo
the
tech
hub
of
Canada,
Ohanian takes
a
look
at
the
growth
and
success
of
Vidyard in
the
segment
entitled
Vidyard
demonstrates
the
time-honored
art
of
the
startup
pivot.
Vidyard was
part
of
Y
Combinator,
a
Silicon
Valley
startup
incubator,
and,
has
been
"on
a
tear
ever
since,"
says
Ohanian.
Ohanian
takes
a
look
at
the
University's
IP
policy,
which
Sullivan
says
gives
students
the
freedom
to
"create
own
and
build
and
start
their
own
company."
Sullivan
and
Galloway
also
speak
about
the
value
of
Waterloo
Engineering's
co-op
education.
"Nothing
really
changed
from
co-op
to
full-time,"
says
Galloway.
"I
think
a
huge
benefit
of
the
co-op
experience
is
that
you
come
into
a
job
ready
to
go.
This
is
really
good
for
the
company."
