For the first time, Waterloo Engineering was represented at the Canadian International AutoShow (CIAS) 2015 in Toronto, creating awareness for education pathways into the automotive industry.
Waterloo Engineering’s presence at CIAS included a showcase of the winning vehicle from the 2014 Electric Vehicle Challenge - a competition that provides high school students the opportunity to design, build and race an electric car, working collaboratively in teams.
CIAS attendees were encouraged to participate in the Electric Vehicle Challenge, and discover the various pathways to careers in automotive engineering. Attendees also had the opportunity to speak with current engineering students pursuing careers in the automotive industry through co-op employment, program options, and involvement with student teams.
Electric Vehicle Challenge sponsor, Trillium Automobile Dealers Association (TADA), invited Waterloo Engineering to attend CIAS in support of the association's Career Start education program.
"Having the University of Waterloo's Faculty of Engineering present at the TADA exhibit inside CIAS provides a valuable opportunity for students to learn about the breadth of the auto industry," says Dave Fraser, Trillium Automobile Dealers Association, Career Start program co-ordinator. "Waterloo brought a new aspect of the industry into focus for CIAS attendees, by showing them the many educational options that can provide a gateway to careers in the automotive industry."
Waterloo Engineering will be present at CIAS until Sunday, February 22 at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre.
