A Waterloo Engineering electrical and computer engineering professor has been awarded a federal grant to develop a training program that will help drive innovation in areas as diverse as automotive, aerospace, energy, manufacturing and healthcare.

Waterloo Engineering has named a room in Engineering 3 the Ralph Haas Infrastructure and Sensing Analysis Laboratory in recognition of Ralph Haas, distinguished professor emeritus of civil engineering.

“I am delighted the University is able to show its appreciation of Ralph’s enormous achievements in the field of pavement and transportation technology by naming this laboratory in his honour," said Pearl Sullivan, dean of engineering.

Waterloo’s Formula Hybrid edged out other top university race cars at this year’s Formula Hybrid International Competition taking first place overall, winning another top award and setting a new all-time record in the total number of completed endurance laps.

Celebrating independent invention, Popular Science recently named the top 10 innovations for 2015 with the Popular Science Invention Awards. Among this years' extraordinary gadgets is the V-One custom circuit board printer created by mechatronics and nanotechnology engineering alumni at Voltera Inc.

Making shared accommodation spaces more private and secure is the goal behind winning Capstone Design project, Boogaloo Bunks. The team, comprised of students from mechanical, mechatronics and systems design engineering, designed a solution that transforms hostel beds into private and secure personal pods.
