Andrew
Andrade,
co-founder
of
a
successful
startup,
is
Canada's
top
co-op
student
of
the
year.
The
Canadian
Association
for
Co-operative
Education
made
the
announcement
March
18
during
National
Co-op
Week.
Additionally,
Andrade
is
the
top
co-op
student
campus-wide
for
the
Faculty
of
Engineering.
Andrade
is
recognized
for
his
exemplary
performance
during
a
work
term
in
2014,
along
with
other
factors
including
community
involvement,
contribution
to
co-op
and
academic
achievement.
During
the
work
term
he
spent
in Enterprise
Co-op
run
out
of
Waterloo
Engineering's
Conrad
Business,
Entrepreneurship
and
Technology
Centre, Andrade
co-founded
PetroPredict with
Dominic Toselli,
now
a
Waterloo
mechanical
engineering
graduate. The
award-winning
startup uses
machine
learning
for
risk
modelling
to
inform
oil
companies
about
pipeline
leaks
that
could
cause
environmental
damage.
Andrade
placed
third
in
the
Society
of
Petroleum
Engineers
Canada-wide
graduate
research
competition
for
his
work
on
artificial
intelligence
in
the
oil
and
gas
industry.
He
leads
technology
development
and
research
at
PetroPredict,
housed
at
the
Velocity
Garage,
and
supervises
a
number
of
new
recruits,
including
co-op
students.
Andrade
is
currently
on
an
engineering
exchange
term
in
Singapore.
