The Department of Chemical Engineering (ChE) at the University of Waterloo is seeking an exceptional scholar and researcher for a tenure track position at the rank of Assistant Professor with an anticipated start date of September 1, 2024. In the case of exceptional candidates, appointments at the rank of Associate Professor will be considered.
The position is in Electrochemical Engineering, with a mission to advance the development of materials, devices and/or systems for electrochemical energy generation and storage. The position fits well with plans presently underway to build core battery fabrication and testing infrastructure that will engage the growing electric vehicle supply chain. The desired candidate will be expected to draw upon core chemical engineering principles and nanotechnology tools to develop solutions for scalable and sustainable manufacturing of current or next-generation electrode materials and architectures, as well as other advanced battery components, such as solid-state electrolytes and membranes.
The successful candidate must have a PhD in Engineering or an equivalent discipline and be capable of teaching a variety of courses in the chemical engineering and nanotechnology curricula. Evidence of an actively developing research program is required. Duties include research, teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels, supervising graduate students, and service efforts of the Department and the University. Design or manufacturing experience is an asset, as are evidence of interdisciplinary collaboration in support of the scoping, development, evaluation, and implementation of solutions, and a demonstrated ability and interest to teach in open-ended problem-driven course formats.
The salary range for the position at the Assistant Professor rank is $120,000 to $160,000. Negotiations beyond this salary range will be considered for exceptionally qualified candidates. The successful applicant is required to have an engineering license for practice (full) or teaching (limited) in Canada, or to apply for a Canadian engineering license within the first year of joining the University. Due to program accreditation requirements, all new faculty members are required to obtain the license within five years of initial appointment at the University of Waterloo, and maintain it during their employment at the University.
