Each year, Building Design and Construction (BD+C) honours 40 individuals under the age of 40 in the architecture, engineering and construction (AEC) community as the next generation of rising stars.
Waterloo Engineering alumnus Cheryl Saldanha (BASc ’09, civil engineering) has made the 40 Under 40 class list for 2022.
Saldanha, 36, is a senior project manager at Simpson Gumpertz & Heger in New York and has been recognized by the industry leading content platform as Building Design Champion of the year.
She said her biggest professional achievement so far was being part of the New York City Energy Conservation Code Technical Advisory Committee.
“After encountering understandable resistance from clients due to various project constraints, I decided to go ‘upstream’ to make our energy code – and in turn, all buildings – better,” Saldanha said.
“I enjoy interacting with different stakeholders and hearing different perspectives from those involved. Policy development is rewarding work. I am glad for the opportunity to contribute!”
The 40 Under 40 class is made up of architects, engineers, contractors and real estate developers from around the world who are recognized for their career achievements, passion for the AEC profession, involvement with AEC industry organizations and service to their communities.
