A company that was co-founded by a Waterloo Engineering alumnus to improve infrastructure inspection using artificial intelligence was recently acquired by an engineering firm in the United States.
ConeLabs was launched in 2023 by Albert Mansour (BASc ’05, civil and environmental engineering) and Ahmed Mahmoud with a mission to revolutionize the inspection of infrastructure and enhance safety with state-of-the-art imaging and analysis technology.
The financial terms of the acquisition of the Kitchener-based startup by Consor North America, described as a leading engineering firm at the forefront of intelligent, future-ready infrastructure, weren’t made public.
“Joining Consor gives us the opportunity to deploy our technology into some of the most sophisticated structural inspection work in the industry and apply it across large, complex infrastructure programs,” Mansour, the CEO of ConeLabs, said in a media release.
“From our earliest conversations, we saw a strong cultural and technical fit with a team that shares our belief that technology should be built around how engineers work, giving them better tools to understand infrastructure conditions.”
