A Waterloo Architecture alum has been recognized in King Charles III's 2026 Birthday Honours, part of the United Kingdom's national program celebrating outstanding achievement and service.
Alison Brooks (BES ’85; BArch ’88) was appointed an Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) on June 16 for her contributions to architecture.
Brooks moved to England after graduating and spent several years working alongside designer Ron Arad before establishing her own practice, Alison Brooks Architects, in 1996. Her work has since earned her three of the most prestigious prizes in British architecture — the Stirling Prize, the Manser Medal and the Stephen Lawrence Prize — a combination no other UK architect has achieved.
She was among several UK architects and designers honoured that day, including Ron Arad, Faye Toogood and Max Lamb. The University of Waterloo previously recognized her contributions to the profession with an honorary doctorate in 2016.
