Construction has started on a new $4.5-million research facility for autonomous vehicles near the Engineering 7 building on the east campus of the University of Waterloo.
The Autonomous Vehicle Research and Intelligence Lab (AVRIL) is scheduled for completion by the summer of 2019 with features including 10 vehicle bays.
Workers have started excavation for a $4.5-million building on the east campus of the University of Waterloo to house its autonomous vehicle project and other initiatives.
A one-storey, 7,050-square-foot building that is receiving financial backing from both the federal and provincial governments, AVRIL will be home to the University of Waterloo’s ambitious autonomous vehicle project and other initiatives.
Research will focus on areas including perception by self-driving vehicles in all weather conditions, coordination with other vehicles and safety assurance, a critical requirement for viable autonomy.
