Dr. Carol Hulls, Associate Chair, Teaching and Continuing Lecturer in the Department of Mechanical and Mechatronics Engineering, has won a Distinguished Teaching Award (DTA) for 2024.
Administered by the Centre for Teaching Excellence, the DTA is awarded to individuals who have a demonstrated record of excellent teaching over an extended period at the University of Waterloo. The award also considers educational impact beyond the classroom, inclusive teaching practice and evidence of a favourable and lasting influence on students. Four awards are given out university wide each year.
Dr. Hulls is the first woman in Engineering to be awarded a DTA since 1978. She was recognised for her dedication to joyful and ongoing improvement in learning and teaching. A colleague has described Carol as “the most skilled instructor at Waterloo I have encountered. She is now the benchmark I use when reviewing and considering the skills of others.”
