Frank Baylis, a Waterloo electrical engineering alumnus, is the new Liberal MP in the western-Montreal Pierrefonds-Dollard riding, winning the seat from NDP incumbent Lysane Blanchette-Lamothe.
Baylis, right, the president of Baylis Medical, was the recipient of the Faculty of Engineering's 2014 Team Alumni Achievement Medal, along with Kris Shah who also graduated from Waterloo's electrical engineering program in 1986.
Baylis Medical, a world leader in the design, manufacturing and sale of high technology products with applications in cardiology, oncology and the vascular system, is an ongoing supporter of Waterloo Engineering's Capstone Design program.
In 2011, Baylis received the Entrepreneur of the Year Award from Ernst and Young.
A devotee of movies, he decided to set up his own production house, Walk of Fame Entertainment. In addition to being its president, he has written several screenplays. He is a former Vice‑President of OME Group Consultants.
He is also a member of the Department of Foreign Affairs, Trade and Development Canada Life Sciences Sector Advisory Board and a member of the Board of Directors of the Campus des technologies de la santé.
Within his community, Baylis is a coach with the Association de ringuette de Beaconsfield‑Kirkland and a leader with Scouts Canada. He oversees Baylis Medical's group of volunteers that raise funds to support projects incudling Breakfast for Learning, an organization that provides breakfast to underprivileged children in Canada.
